We score an interview with a prestigious sports stadia publication to explain the importance of power protection in minimising the risk of mid-match disruptions.
Sport at the elite level is a multi-million (or even multi-billion) industry. From Premier League football and Test match cricket, through to Grand Slam tennis or international rugby, fans in attendance or watching on TV are gripped by the exploits of their favourite sporting superstars.
But what if the floodlights fail during a crucial match? Or if there’s a power cut that turns a ‘stadium of dreams’ into a nightmare? From the top flight through to grassroots level, sports grounds rely on a continuous electrical supply that gives the players the chance to shine.
UPS Maintenance In Sports Stadia
We spoke to Football & Stadium Management magazine about the role of one of the ‘beautiful game’s’ unsung heroes. Just like a dependable full-back or a tireless midfielder, the work of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit often goes on in the background. But that work can often be invaluable.
In the article, our General Manager Leo Craig explains the importance a UPS has in preventing damaging electrical downtime in sports stadia of all different sizes and set-ups. He also outlines why a proactive UPS maintenance regime is essential for all sports groundsmen and facilities managers.
If carried out incorrectly, human error during UPS maintenance can actually be the biggest cause of failure. So Leo sets out some steps to take to ensure UPS maintenance is carried out safely and efficiently. He recommends embracing technological advances such as thermal imaging technologies, which are far more effective than the human hand or eye at detecting potential faults.
Competence is another key criteria to look out for. Indeed, Leo advises always checking whether any UPS engineer about to service a unit is fully-trained and certified.
